Professor David Weissbrodt

Professor David Weissbrodt attended Columbia University and the London School of Economics. He received his J.D. degree from the University of California at Berkeley (Boalt Hall), where he was Note and Comment Editor of the California Law Review and a member of the Order of the Coif. After graduation, he clerked for Justice Mathew O. Tobriner of the California Supreme Court and practiced law with Covington Burling. He joined the University of Minnesota Law School faculty in 1975 and has been a visiting professor at the Universite Jean Moulin in Lyon, France. Since joining the law faculty, he has written several books and numerous articles on international human rights law, immigration law, and other subjects. He is co-author of International Human Rights: Law, Policy, and Process (3d ed. 2001).

Marci Hoffman

Marci Hoffman is the International and Foreign Law Librarian and Lecturer at the University of California, Berkeley School of Law Library. Prior to working at U.C. Berkeley, Marci was the International & Foreign Law Librarian at Georgetown University Law Library from 1999-2003. She also worked at the University of Minnesota as the Foreign, Comparative and International Law Librarian from 1993-1999. She earned her B.A. degree from the University of California, Davis and her M.L.I.S. degree from the University of California, Berkeley.

Marci has completed an extensive bibliography with Professor David Weissbrodt entitled "Bibliography for Research on International Human Rights Law," 6 Minn. J. Global Trade 189 (1997). This work is also available on the Human Rights Library Web site at http://www1.umn.edu/humanrts/bibliog/BIBLIO.htm. A revised version is available Selected International Human Rights Instruments and Bibliography for Research on International Human Rights Law (3rd ed. 2001). Marci also written several articles on international and foreign legal research and is the editor of the ASIL Guide to Electronic Resources for International Law (http://www.asil.org/resource/Home.htm). She is also the Project Manager for the Electronic Information System for International Law (EISIL), a web project sponsored by the American Society for International law (http://www.eisil.org).

Brian Pierce

Brian Pierce was a founder of the Human Rights Library while he was a student at the University of Minnesota Law School. He graduated in 1997 and clerked for Judge Harriet Lansing and Chief Judge Edward Toussaint, Jr. of the Minnesota Court of Appeals. He now practices law with the firm of Pierce and Keller in Jackson, Minnesota.

Bridget Marks - Research and Writing

Bridget is a recent graduate of the University of Minnesota where she studied european intellectual history. She will begin law school in 2004 at UC Berkeley. Since 1999 Bridget has been developing the English version of the Human Rights Library, and is currently researching and writing an introductory guide to international human rights law. She is an aspiring writer, historian, and human rights lawyer.

Duncan McQueen - Technical Coordinator

Duncan McQueen attends to issues of design, departmental technical support, and acts as a liason between the Human Rights Center and other IT arms of the University of Minnesota. Duncan received his BSBA in Information Systems in 1997 from Drake University. Since graduation, he customized workflow and mutual fund processing systems for one of the nation's largest mutual funds.

Jerena Niyazberdieva - Russian Website

Jerena Niyazberdieva has graduated with honors from the International Law Department of the Turkmen State University in 1999. In 2000 she was awarded with an Edmund Muskie Scholarship to pursue graduate studies in law. Ms. Niyazberdieva completed her Master of Law at the University of Minnesota Law School in 2001, where she started and continues her work with the University of Minnesota Human Rights Library.

Jackson Mafuta - French Website

Jackson Mafuta graduated from the Law Faculty, University of Kinshasa in 2001. He worked as a trainee in courts(for 6 months in 1997 and 2000) and practices as an attorney for a Law Office since 1997. Currently, he is working for the french language part of the library and hopes to achieve his education in law at the University of Minnesota.

Kei Komatsu - Japanese Website

Kei Komatsu is a candidate for the Master of Arts Program in Intercultural Relations at the School for International Training in Vermont. Before he came to the U.S., he contributed to campaign for establishing the International Criminal Court and stopping torture at Amnesty International Japan in 2001. Currently, he is working on the Japanese version of Human Rights library at http://www1.umn.edu/humanrts/japanese/Jindex.html. Also, he is building a network with the Japanese community here in Minnesota by having human rights workshops.

Leah Williams - Web Coordinator

Leah Williams joined the Human Rights Center staff team in March 2004. She is currently working on updating the English, Spanish, and French versions of the Human Rights Library. Leah enjoys photography, reading, writing, and traveling.
